It gets convoluted, but the torque requirement is what make a jet boat motor special. a motor that requires 6500 rpm to make peak power will never get there unless your torque "comes in late"... there are dozens of "recipes", but if a pump gas non racing toy is what your after, here is what i would build; 427 cu in through 468 cu in big block.. The goal of this project is to design and build an r/c model jet sprint style boat to play around the pond at work. although the pond is probably too small, it is a good visual motivation as i walk past it to get to work every day.. Seadoo rotax 717 engine. runs great and has low hours. i purchased jet ski about 8 years ago for the sole purpose of using the motor,electronics and jet pump to build a custom jet jon boat and i can't seem to find time to do it. i run the engine every so often on a stand i built so it hasn't been just sitting up..
