Strip Plank Sailing Dinghy Plans

Strip planking is a form of carvel planking. the hull is built over forms using strips of wood, edge-glued, and edge fastened together. the strips are kept narrow so that there is very little shaping required.. We have boat plans (both yacht designs, catamaran designs and power designs) for all sizes for the amateur boat builder and professional boatbuilder. from the 12ft mushulu plywood stitch & glue power boat design to the oceansky 57 strip plank composite multihull design.. Note - the plans now include moulds and details for a strip planked version plus the plank and frame shapes for an 8 plank per side stitch and tape version - and for those wanting fore and side decks similar to those on the stornoway 14, we can provide the deck drawing for the stornoway 14 which can be easily adapted for the 16..

The list of 400 plans didn't include any more strip planked plans, but is a great resource anyway. i guess i need to start a build thread once the plans arrive, as i couldn't find anything covering building a strip dinghy. although the search engine is a pretty blunt axe!. Strip planking has its place, i use it from time to time myself, but i can honestly say that i have never built a strip planked boat that i did not wish at some stage i was building by another method.. Strip planking. it is normal to begin the planking from the sheer and work upwards. however, strip planking can be started from the keel depending on the particular design. planking which runs parallel to the sheer will look better if the boat is to be finished with the wood showing..
